Clean water and grey water*

*Grey water means non-potable water. Wastewater from the shower is grey water.

Do

  • Stay clear of any danger from electricity.
  • If possible, turn off the water at the source of the spill or shut off the main water supply to the house to prevent any other water leak.
  • Try to limit damage to contents as much as possible near the flood.
  • Protect the structure and your property from any further damage.
  • Remove as much water as possible using a wet vac or absorbent rags.

Don’t

  • Try to dry the area out yourself. There is a risk of mould if it isn’t done properly.

Sewer backups – Black water*

*Wastewater from toilets is black water and must undergo an intense treatment process before it can be reused.

Do

  • Avoid coming into contact with the water because it is most likely contaminated.
